The Quran draws our attention now to the sky now to the earth displaying the hidden secrets and urge us to examine into them. As it is the case with the sky, so it is with the depths of the earth. In the above verse there are indications about facts that the public during the Prophet's time did not know. As faults, had not yet been discovered at that time.

Muhammad Al-Hilali & Muhsin Khan:

[086:011] By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again.

Explanation

The word used for fractured in the above verse is "sada'a" in Arabic. The meaning of the word sada'A according to Arabic dictionaries is "a crack in a hard body" like iron or mirror etc.
