Note: Please be advised that I am not here advocating wife-beating, especially to those women who are very nice and meet their responsibilities in general. I am rather speaking about the what-Islam-calls the Nashiz women, the women who are extremely defiant, rude, disobedient, unbearable, too belittling to their husbands especially in front of people, and would care for their children.
What do Islam and the Bible say about such women? Please visit:
1- Christianity is a religion of conjecture:
Christians, in general, are the most superficial and shallow-minded people when it comes to reasoning and providing evidence. Most of their social laws are based on secular governments' rulings that they falsely credit their man-made and false religion, "Christianity," with them, which Allah Almighty in the Glorious Quran summed up this entire false religion in one Word by calling it a religion of "conjecture". The following few examples make this point very clear:
1- Marriage with more than one wife. Jesus grew up and lived in a society of polygamists, and yet, he never once denounced it. Yet, Christians declare that their religion prohibits polygamy.
2- Their desperate defense of the Bible's X-Rated Pornography, and continuous lies about the relationship being between a husband and a wife, while the bible makes it absolutely clear that it is a sexual relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend.
3- Their continuous lies about the "Gospels" and "Books" of the Bible being inspired by GOD Almighty [2], despite the fact that more than 90% of these books' authors never even once claimed that GOD Almighty had anything to do with them, and much of these so-called "books" were mere letters sent from people to people. Not only that, but bibles' (plural) theologians all declare that the authors of those "books" are not even known!
4- Their man-made laws of inheritance. The Old Testament declares that if sons exist, then daughters inherit nothing! Yet, today, males and females inherit equal shares in the Christian societies.
5- Fasting and Prostrating one's face to GOD Almighty to the ground were done by the Prophets and even by Jesus himself. Yet, Christians today do not do any of this, and the Catholics' fasting about not eating meat and animal products such as eggs and milk, on some Fridays, is a man-made thing.
There are many other examples that I can't think of right now, but I believe these points make it abundantly clear that Christianity is indeed no more than a religion of conjecture; it is a religion that is made by men and men's thoughts.
2- Women and the authority of men, upon them, in the Bible:
There are many verses in the Bible that put women under the authority and judgment of men:
1- Man is clearly the ruler and the lord of the woman:
Genesis 3:16 "To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.""
Now the Bible allows for rulers and kings to not only punish whom they please, but to even kill whom they please. I've written a big article on this where King David, for instance, killed a messenger for a mere message. Yet, David is a blessed person by GOD Almighty in the Bible.
I am not saying that a husband is allowed to kill his wife if she defies or reviles him. But certainly, him being her ruler gives him a great deal of power and authority over her. So why should he be forbidden from disciplining her if she gets out of line?
Furthermore, the New Testament also said:
1 Corinthians 11:3 "Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."
"the head of" means
The master.
Lord.
One who has authority over.
One who is responsible for.
1 Corinthians 11:6-7
6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should
have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her
hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God;
but the woman is the glory of man."
2- Only the daughter could be sold by her father to
slavery:
Exodus 21:7-8 "And in case a man should sell his daughter as a slave girl, she will not go out in the way that the slave men go out. If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master so that he doesn't designate her as a concubine but causes her to be redeemed, he will not be entitled to sell her to a foreign people in his treacherously dealing with her."
3- The man is allowed to cut the woman's hands if she defends her husband in the wrong way:
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 "And in case men struggle together (in a fight) with one another, and the wife of the one has come near to deliver her husband out of the striking one (to save her husband), and she has thrust out her hand and grabbed hold of his private (the other man's groin), she must then get both her hands cut off, and the eyes of the men must feel no sorrow."
4- The New Testament considers women as filth that defiles men:
Revelation 14:4 "Those are those (men) who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as first fruits to God and the Lamb."
Note: Christians, again, lie on this one and claim that the verse is referring to prostitutes. That is not what the verse says even if we assume that it meant that. The fact that it used "women", which includes all females, definitely means that the intent here was to degrade women! You can lie and argue endlessly about this, but the verse its very clear. The Bible addresses prostitutes in 100s (literally) of verses throughout the Old and New Testaments. The verses are countless. Yet, in this one, the word women was chosen. It didn't even say bad women. No, it just said women. It clearly refers to the other verses of the Bible where the woman (Eve) was blamed for kicking mankind out of Heaven. Allah Almighty in the Glorious Quran, on the other hand, blamed both Adam and Eve, and not just Eve.
5- The daughter would get burnt alive with fire:
Leviticus 21:9 "And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire."
There are many many other verses that I could dig up and provide, but these should be sufficient enough to prove that men have full authority over women in the Bible.
3- Jesus surely witnessed wife-beating and never condemned it!
Like in every society, there are always those people who are short-tempered and violent. In fact, the Bible gave certain punishments for beating certain people:
Exodus 21
14 But if a man schemes and kills another man
deliberately, take him away from my altar and put him to death.
15 "Anyone who attacks his father or his mother must be put to
death.
16 "Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has
him when he is caught must be put to death.
17 "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.
18 "If men quarrel and one hits the other with a stone or with his
fist [a] and he does not die but is confined to bed,
19 the one who struck the blow will not be held responsible if the other gets up
and walks around outside with his staff; however, he must pay the injured man
for the loss of his time and see that he is completely healed.
20 "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the
slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished,
21 but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since
the slave is his property.
22 "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives
birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined
whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows.
23 But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
26 "If a man hits a manservant or maidservant in the eye and
destroys it, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the eye.
27 And if he knocks out the tooth of a manservant or maidservant, he must let
the servant go free to compensate for the tooth.
Numbers 35
18 Or if anyone has a wooden object in his hand
that could kill, and he hits someone so that he dies, he is a
murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.
..........
21 or if in hostility he hits him with his fist so that he dies,
that person shall be put to death; he is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall
put the murderer to death when he meets him.
Deuteronomy 19
5 For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut
wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off
and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these
cities and save his life.
The Bible went into many details about many of the hitting scenarios. It even went as far as giving a hypothetical example of a neighbor accidently causing for a tree to fall on his neighbor. Yet,
Never once did the Bible address the beating of wives! Why is that?
In fact, if a man rapes a single girl, which is technically a physical beating and a rape, then his punishment is to marry her:
"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. (From the NIV Bible, Deuteronomy 22:28)"
I simply do not see where the Bible truly prohibits wife-beating. It seems clear to me that the Bible looks at the woman as someone who belongs only to her husband and that it is none of anyone's business to know or to care about what really goes on between them. So whether the husband beats his wife or not, it really doesn't matter. This is how I honestly see the Bible's view toward the wife. I am not saying that the Bible encourages wife-beating. But certainly, the Bible
Just doesn't care at all about it.
Also, Jesus has definitely seen or heard of wife-beating incidents throughout his life in the society that he lived in. I mean, I find it virtually impossible for a hard-headed society that he lived among, who were full of defiance and stubbornness, to not have wife-beating in it. So, Jesus' silence about it also proves that
Jesus too didn't really care at all about it.
(a)- What about the love your wife, love your enemy and turn the other cheek rules?
Let us look at the following verses from the Bible:
Luke 6
34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect
repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,'
expecting to be repaid in full.
35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them
without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you
will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who
mistreat you.
29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.
If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.
30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do
not demand it back.
But there is a limit to forgiveness:
Matthew 18
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord,
how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to
seven times?"
22 Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times,
but seventy-seven times.
23 "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle
accounts with his servants.
A bad wife could run out of the 77 times in a matter of days or weeks.
We also read:
Ephesians 5:32-33
32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about
Christ and the church.
33 However, each one of you also must
love his wife as he loves himself, and
the wife must respect her husband.
Christian men are expected to love their wives as they love themselves, and Christian women are expected to respect their husbands. But what if the wife does not respect nor honor her husband? What if she is an unbearable person? Full of foul words? Stubborn? Disrespectful and defiant to her master and head, her husband?
Yes, the man is expected to be merciful as GOD Almighty is Merciful, and to love his enemies and to do good to them, but what if the wife becomes such an enemy that she is too harmful to the man, his dignity and to their children? What if she doesn't want to take care of the children, nor to feed them? What if she continuously defies the social traditions? What if she constantly insult him and belittle him in front of people? What if she doesn't treat him as her "head"?
Furthermore, we read:
Hosea 3
1 The LORD said to me, "Go, show your love to your wife
again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress.
Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other
gods and love the sacred raisin cakes."
This verse clearly and indisputably proves that wife-beating to the extremely defiant and disobedient women is allowed, for the following reasons:
1- If one were to love his wife as GOD Almighty loved the Israelites, then this means that he can beat the day lights out of her every time she defies him!
2- Yes husband, you must be
with your wife! But, if she does get waaaayyyy out of line with you, as the Israelites got way out of line with GOD Almighty, then you are permitted to treat her as GOD Almighty treated the Israelites - to punish her! And GOD Almighty annhialated the Israelites when He, the Almighty, decided to go against them.
4- If the country's law prohibits wife-beating, then both Muslims and Christians are forbidden from doing it.
It is important to the reader that today, in many countries throughout the world, wife and husband-beating is forbidden. It is called domestic violence. It even covers the children, but this is usually a grey area that the law isn't as strict about as the wife and husband-beating. In other words, here in America for instance, you may spank your child for discipline, but you couldn't do the same for either your husband or wife.
What do the Glorious Quran and the Bible say about following the current laws of the country?
(a)- In the Glorious Quran:
Allah Almighty Said:
| Noble Verse(s) 4:59 |
| Yusuf
Ali: [004:059] O ye who believe! Obey God, and obey the Apostle, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to God and His Apostle, if ye do believe in God and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination. Arabic (from right to left): 4:59 ياايها الذين امنوا اطيعوا الله واطيعوا الرسول واولي الامر منكم فان تنازعتم في شئ فردوه الى الله والرسول ان كنتم تؤمنون بالله واليوم الاخر ذلك خير واحسن تاويلا |
As a Muslim, I am obligated to follow the law of the country that I am living with my free will in. If the speed limit of the road says 45mph (miles per hour), then according to the Glorious Quran, I am obligated by Allah Almighty Himself to follow this law and to honor it and respect it. The same goes for all other rules including domestic violence and others.
Furthermore, Allah Almighty also Said:
| Noble Verse(s) 2:286 |
| Yusuf
Ali: [002:286] On no soul doth God Place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray:) "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden Like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; Help us against those who stand against faith." Arabic (from right to left): 2:286 لايكلف الله نفسا الا وسعها لها ماكسبت وعليها مااكتسبت ربنا لاتؤاخذنا ان نسينا او اخطانا ربنا ولاتحمل علينا اصرا كما حملته على الذين من قبلنا ربنا ولاتحملنا مالاطاقة لنا به واعف عنا واغفر لنا وارحمنا انت مولانا فانصرنا على القوم الكافرين |
| Noble Verse(s) 2:195 |
| Dr. Munir
Munshey (one of
www.answering-christianity.com's authors): [002:195] Spend your wealth for the cause of Allah. Do not, by your own doings, put yourself in harm’s way. Do the right thing. Of course, Allah loves the righteous. Arabic (from right to left): 2:195 وانفقوا في سبيل الله ولاتلقوا بايديكم الى التهلكة واحسنوا ان الله يحب المحسنين |
A Muslim is not only not obligated to violate the law, but he is strictly forbidden from violating it, because:
1- He/she will not be able to bear the consequences of going to jail and losing much of his life, career and wealth through disobeying the law in anything, in general.
2- He/she is forbidden from putting him/herself in harm's way.
Furthermore, Allah Almighty also Said:
| Noble Verse(s) 2:173 |
| Yusuf
Ali: [002:173] He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of God. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For God is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. Arabic (from right to left): 2:173 انما حرم عليكم الميتة والدم ولحم الخنزير ومااهل به لغير الله فمن اضطر غير باغ ولاعاد فلا اثم عليه ان الله غفور رحيم |
A Muslim is permitted to violate or nullify the Law of Allah Almighty if there is a legitimate reason for it. In our case here, if a certain law of the country goes against a certain Law in the Glorious Quran, then as Muslims we are both permitted and obligated to follow the country's law, not the Glorious Quran's.
However, there are growing conspiracies against Islam in the West, and especially in Europe, where Muslims are being targeted. New laws are now being considered about banning the Hijab (head-scarf) of Muslim women in public in France, Denmark and other countries. I am not talking about the covering of the face, but rather the covering of the hair and the whole body with the exception of the face, hands and feet. Since this law would be a conspiracy and not a general law, such as following the speed limit or not doing domestic violence, then I am not really sure what is the proper way to handle it.
1- I mean, on one hand, one could easily advise Muslims to simply just follow the law.
2- On the other hand, my wife covers her head, and neither I or her could imagine her walking in public without a head scarf, nor would she do it on her own. In fact, she is very very strict when it comes to following Islam, and so am I.
But anyway, in general, dear Muslim brothers and sisters, the above Noble Verses are the Laws of the Glorious Quran that address how to deal with life and its general obstacles. There are more Noble Verses that I could provide, but the above Noble Verses cover all grounds very well.
(b)- In the Bible:
The Bible says:
Romans 13
Submission to the Authorities
1 Everyone must submit himself to
the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that
which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by
God.
2 Consequently, he who rebels
against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted,
and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.
Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right
and he will commend you.
4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he
does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to
bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to
submit to the authorities, not only because of possible
punishment but also because of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who
give their full time to governing.
7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then
revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
While Paul is wrong on several main points, but in general, these verses are used by almost all Christians to prove that one must follow the law.
The two points that Paul is wrong on are:
1- Every authority is established by GOD Almighty is wrong, because satan establishes evil in the land, and many governments come about in illegitimate ways. It is one thing to say that GOD Almighty, for now, allows evil to endure on earth, and it's another to say:
2- Why do governments fight, and why do countries invade each others if all of the governments were established and instituted by GOD Almighty?
3- There are tyrants that enslave their people and force them to do irrational labor and cause millions of them to die in the process (ex: Joseph Stalin). There are others that steal all of the money and leave the nation to starve to death (ex: many of the corrupt regimes in Africa).
Furthermore, Paul is clearly and indisputably contradicted by the New Testament itself, because the kingdoms of earth had been established by satan and not GOD Almighty:
Matthew 4
The Temptation of Jesus
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these
stones to become bread."
4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on
every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest
point of the temple.
6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their
hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the
test.'"
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the
kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 "All this I will give you,"
he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord
your God, and serve him only.'"
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
How could satan dare to tell Jesus that he will give him all of the kingdoms of the world if satan did not have full control and ownership over them? So for Paul to say that these regimes were established and instituted by Allah Almighty is very wrong, and further proves that the Bible is corrupt, because Paul's words are simply full of errors.
And as to the scientific blunder about the earth being flat in Matthew 4:9 (took him to the highest mountain and showed him all of the world's kindoms), please visit:
Paul is known to say absurd things:
So now based on what objective grounds should we reject the claim about the Bible's New Testament's accounts being mostly false and fabricated by men?
5- Conclusion:
It is clear that the Bible did not even once addressed the issue of wife-beating, nor husband-beating, while it did address many issues of beatings. It is also clear that the woman is under the control and authority of her husband, and the Bible clearly doesn't care much about what goes on between them.
However, the Bible did command kindness, humbleness and mercy to all people. The Bible also commanded the same to the wives. The Bible limited the forgiveness to 77 times. A bad wife could go through all of them in a matter of weeks or months. But however, the command for the husband to love his wife as GOD Almighty loved Israel only proves that wife-beating is permitted for the women who are defiant, disobedient, belittling to their "heads" and "masters" (their husbands), and stubborn, because GOD Almighty, while He Loved the people of Israel, He also annihilated them many times in the past.
Jesus also existed in a society that had both polygamy and wife-beating in it, and he never condemned any of them.
Both Islam and Christianity command that people follow the law of the countries that they live in. Therefore, if the law prohibits wife-beating, then a husband is forbidden to beat his wife, regardless whether he/she believes that wife-beating is allowed or not in his/her religion.
